On Saturday, Unity Christian Varsity Softball captured the Regional Championship by score of 2-0 over Wayland,and then 5-4 over Hamilton in 8 innings. Makenzie Cammenga got the win in both games, raising her record to 31-3 on the season. Both the Overweg sisters were big contributors at the plate as Sydney and Brooklyn both had big hits to help Unity advance. Unity Softball will next be in action on Tuesday, June 11th at Noon against Vicksburg.

On Wednesday, Unity Christian Softball played a couple of tune up games before the Regional Semi's on Saturday. Unity prevailed in both games against the Rockford Rams from the OK Red. Makenzie Cammenga went the distance in game 1 to get her 29th win on the season, recording a shutout. In game 2 Madeline Dykhouse toed the rubber and got her 3rd win on the season. Unity will next be in action on Saturday taking on the Wayland Wildcats in the Regional Semi Finals at Noon at Unity Christian Field.
On Saturday, Unity Christian Varsity Softball won the District Title by winning two games by the score of 8-0 in 1st game & 19-0 2nd game. Makenzie Cammenga was stellar in the circle as she toss a 2 hitter in game 1 and threw a perfect game in game 2, striking out all 9 batters in the run ruled shortened game. Unity will next be in action on Wednesday as they will host Rockford for 2 games.
Unity Christian traveled to Reeths Puffer on Wednesday to take on the 31-3-1 Rockets. Unity was able to prevail behind strong pitching and defense by a score of 1-0. Makenzie Cammenga recorded the win in going all 7 innings and striking out 13 batters and only giving up 2 hits. Makenzie also had the lone RBI on the night as she was able to score Paige Rylaarsdam from 3rd base on a suicide squeeze play in the 4th inning. The defense took over from there by getting out of jams in the 6th & 7th inning to preserve the victory. Unity will next be in action on Saturday as we start District play against South Christian at 11:30am at Kelloggsville.
On Thursday, Unity Christian traveled to Ravenna to take on the Division Three 3rd Ranked Bulldogs in a non conference DH. The Unity Defense and pitching were strong, but the bats were quiet and the Crusaders lost both contest by scores of 1-0 & 6-0. Unity will next be in action next week Wednesday as they travel to Reeth's Puffer.
On Wednesday night, Unity Christian Varsity softball completed the DH with Holland Christian that was postponed from Monday night. Unity came out on top in a run ruled contest 15-3 after 6 innings. Unity was led by Makenzie Cammenga as she won her 25th game of the season to set the school record wins in a season. Makenzie pitched 3 innings striking out 7 and only giving up one hit. Madeline Dykhouse came on in relief pitching 3 innings, striking out 2, and not giving up an earned run. Unity had 17 hits on the night led by Paige Rylaarsdam & Brooklyn Overweg with 3. Brooklyn also went deep for her 2nd HR on the season. Bella Duimstra, Trista Goorhouse, Molly Versluis, & Madeline all had 2 hits to join in on the fun. Unity will be travelling to Ravenna on Thursday for a non conference DH.
On Monday Night, Unity Christian Varsity Softball hosted Holland Christian. it was scheduled for a DH, but rain postponed the 2nd game to be made up at a later date. In game 1, Unity was able to shut out the Maroons of HC by a score of 8-0. Makenzie Cammenga earned the win in the circle going all 7 inning, giving up only 2 hits to garner her 24 win on the season. The offense was slow out of the game, but by end of game Unity was able to muster up 9 hits led by Paige Rylaarsdam with 3 and Bella Duimstra with 2. Autumn Meinzer also recorded 2 RBI. Unity will wait to see when the 2nd game will be made up later this week.
On Saturday, Unity Christian Varsity Softball hosted Zeeland West & Caledonia in the Unity Invite. Unity Christian came out on top in both contest, winning by scores of 4-1 vs Zeeland West & 9-3 vs Caledonia. Makenzie Cammenga was credited with the wins in both games, and in the process, surpassed the 500 Varsity strikeout's in her career at Unity. Offense was led by Paige Rylaarsdam, hitting .833 on the day. But Unity also received timely hitting from Eva Latimer hitting .500 on the day, as well as Bella Duimstra & Cammenga, both hitting .429 on the day. Unity Christian Varsity Softball will be back in action at home on Monday to finish out the Conference season vs Holland Christian.
On Wednesday, Unity Christian Varsity Softball hosted Covenant Christian in a non league Double Header. Unity Christian prevailed in both games 8-1 in game 1 and 13-3 (5 innings) in game 2. Makenzie Cammenga went the distance in game 1 collecting her 21st win on the year and striking out 15 Covenant batters. In Game 2 Madeline Dykhouse got the win giving up only 1 earned run. Offensive was led by Paige Rylaarsdam & Autumn Meinzer with 4 hits each on the night. Bella Duimstra & Makenzie had 3 hits each and Molly Versluis tallied 2 hits on the night. Autumn also led the team in RBI with 4, but followed closely by the trio of Paige, Makenzie & Molly with 3 each. Unity will next be in action on Saturday as we host the Unity Christian Invite. Game times will be 10:00am & 2:00pm.
On Tuesday night, Unity Christian Varsity Softball hosted conference foe Allendale. Unity Christian won both games by scores of 10-3, & 3-2 (8 innings). Makenzie Cammenga received the Wins in both games to raise her record to 20-1 on the season. Madeline Dykhouse came on in relief in 2nd game and threw 3 shutout innings. Makenzie also led the team in hitting going 5-7 w/ 2 doubles. Paige Rylaarsdam and Autumn Meinzer had 4 hits on the night. Autumn also drove in the winning run in the 8th inning in game 2. Unity will next be in action hosting Covenant Christian on Wednesday.
On Friday night Hudsonville Unity Christian traveled to Hamilton to play the DH that was postponed from Tuesday's rain. Unity Christian claimed wins in both games by scores of 13-3 and 4-3. Makenzie Cammenga got the win in the circle in both games, but received help in the 2nd game by Madeline Dykhouse. Makenzie recorded 13 K's on the evening while only giving up 2 earned runs. The pitchers also received plenty of help on the offensive side led by as Unity collected 25 hits on the evening. Makenzie had 6, Paige Rylaarsdam had 4 and Bella Duimstra had 4. Autumn Meinzer had 3 and Sydney Overweg, Molly Versluis, Madeline, and Eva Latimer had two hits on the night. Unity will next be in action at home against another conference foe in Allendale.

Makenzie Cammenga got the Win in the circle (her 16th on the season) and Madeline Dykhouse came on in relief to pitch 4 strong innings, striking out two and not giving up an earned run. Unity collected 15 hits on the night, led by Bella Duimstra & Makenzie with 4 each. Bella had two doubles and Makenzie collected her 1st HR on the season. Unity will be back in action on Friday as they travel to Hamilton in a league DH.

Unfortunately, field conditions played an issue with the schedule for the day and not all games were played. Unity was only able to play 8 innings on the day, playing Jenison in a 5 inning scrimmage, and then playing Comstock Park in a 3 inning run ruled game. On Wednesdy Night, Unity Christian Varsity Softball hosted Byron Center in a non-league doubleheader. Unity won the 1st game behind strong pitching from Makenzie Cammenga 10-0 in 6 innings. Makenzie struck out 14 in the contest. In game 2 Madeline Dykhouse got the start. Madeline pitched a great game but unfortunately lost 9-4. Unity collected 17 hits on the night, led by Autumn Meinzer with 6, and Molly Versluis, Bella Duimstra, & Madeline with 3 hits each. On Tuesday Night, Unity Christian Varsity Softball travelled to Fruitport in a league doubleheader. Unity won both behind strong pitching from Makenzie Cammenga & Madeline Dykhouse. In game 1 Makenzie struck out 7 Fruitport batters only giving up 1 earned runs. In game 2, Makenzie got the start and Win in the circle. Madeline Dykhouse came in the game and threw one shutout inning. In all, 11 different Unity batters had base hits on the evening, led by Sydney Overweg with 6, and Paige Rylaarsdam & Bella Duimstra with 5 hits each. Paige also collected her 1st HR on the season. On Friday Night, Unity Christian Varsity Softball travelled to Calvin Christian in a non league doubleheader. Unity won both behind strong pitching from Makenzie Cammenga & Madeline Dykhouse. In game 1 Makenzie struck out 8 Calvin Christian batters only giving up 1 earned runs. In game 2, Madeline Dykhouse collected her 1st Varsity Win in pitching 5 strong innings, allowing only 4 hits, 3 run (1 earned). Cammenga came in relief in the 6th & 7th to preserve the victory. Unity collected 21 hits on the night, led by Autumn Meinzer with 6, Bella Duimstra had 4. In all, 10 different Unity batters had base hits on the evening. On Tuesday, Unity Christian Varsity Softball played Coopersville in a league DH. Unity won both games behind strong pitching from Makenzie Cammenga. In game 1 Makenzie struck out 10 Coopersville batters only giving up 2 earned runs. In game 2, she again went 7 strong innings striking out 6 and giving up 5 earned runs in collecting her 10th win on the season. The highlight of the evening came in the 1st game, bottom of 2nd inning, when 4 Unity players hit HR’s. Sydney Overweg started with her 3rd HR. That was followed by sister Brooklyn Overweg ( her 2nd), then sophomore Madeline Dykhouse added to the fun with her 1st HR on the season. Not to be outdone, leadoff hitter Bella Duimstra hit her 1st HR on the season. Unity Christian Varsity Softball will next be in action on Friday at Calvin Christian in a non conference DH.
On Monday, Unity Christian Varsity Softball travelled crosstown to take on the State Ranked 3rd place Wildcats from Jenison. Unity split on the day, winning game 1 behind dominant hitting and great pitching from Makenzie Cammenga. Makenzie struckout 9 of the powerful Jenison batters, only giving up 5 hits and 1 earned run to claim the victory. In game 2 Madeline Dykhouse pitched a great game but, a couple errors opening the scoring late. Unity hitters hit the ball hard in both games, but unfortunately right at the Jenison players. Unity tallied 13 hits on the day, led by Sydney Overweg, Paige Rylaarsdam, Molly Versluis, and Bella Duimstra with two hits each. Brooklyn Overweg and Bella both had triples on the evening. Unity Christian Varsity Softball will next be in action on Tuesday at Home to continue conference play against Coopersville.
On Thursday, Unity Christian Varsity Softball traveled to Zeeland West in a single Game. Unity prevailed behind dominant pitching from Makenzie Cammenga and timely hitting from the Crusader bats. Makenzie struckout 11 Zeeland West batters and only gave up 3 hits in the contest. Unity tallied 9 hits in the contest behind Bella Duimstra and Autumn Meinzer with 2 each. Unity Christian Varsity Softball will next be in action on Monday at Jenison.
On Tuesday, Unity Christian Varsity Softball hosted the Falcons of West Catholic in a league doubleheader. Unity prevailed in both contest by scores of 9-3 in game 1 and 22-2 (4 innings) in game 2. Makenzie Cammenga got the wins in both games, allowing only 5 hits and no runs in both contests. Madeline Dykhouse entered both contests in relief, pitching 1 inning in the 1st game and 2 innings in the 2nd game. Unity bats were hot in both contests as we tallied 31 runs on the evening. Hitting was led by a trio of players with 4 hits each in Molly Versluis, Brooklyn Overweg, & Paige Rylaarsdam. Sydney Overweg also hit her 2nd HR on the season! On Saturday, Unity Christian Varsity Softball travelled to Stevensville Lakeshore to play in the Lakeshore Invite. Unity went 1-2 on the day, but the record does not show on how well the team played! Makenzie Cammenga got the win in game 1, going 7 innings and striking out 11 and only giving up one earned run. In Game 2 Madeline Dykhouse got the start and went 6 innings giving up 5 runs. In game 3 Cammenga got the start again vs the #1 ranked team in the State and 19th ranked team in the Country. Unity battled, but fell short in the contest. On the Day, Bella Duimstra had a great day at the plate, going 6-9 with 3 doubles. Paige Rylaarsdam had 4 hits, Molly Versluis had 3 and Makenzie Cammenga had 2. Unity Christian Varsity Softball will next be in action on Tuesday to open our home schedule against league opponent, West Catholic.
On Tuesday, Unity Christian Varsity Softball travelled to Spring Lake to open conference play with a doubleheader. Unity won both games by scores of 18-1 & 15-2. Makenzie Cammenga started both games and collected the win in both games. Makenzie struckout 6 batters in the 1st game and collected 11 K’s in the 2nd game. Madeline Dykhouse came on in relief in game one and tossed 4 innings, giving up only 2 hits and striking out 5 Laker batters. Unity bats collected 13 hits in game one led by Autumn Meinzer and Bella Duimstra with 3 each. In game 2 Unity again collect double digit hits with 12, led by Bella Duimstra, Paige Rylaarsdam, and Makenzie Cammenga. Unity Christian Varsity will next be in action on Saturday at the Stevensville Lakeshore Invite.
On Monday, Unity Christian Varsity Softball started the season off in winning fashion by a score of 9-5 against East Kentwood. Unity Christian collected 12 hits on the afternoon, as all 8 different Crusader hitters tallied a base hit. Hitting was led by Paige Rylaarsdam with 3, and Molly Versluis, Makenzie Cammenga and Rachel Huttinga each collected 2 hits each. Also, Freshman Brooklyn Overweg went deep to record her 1st High School Home Run! Makenzie Cammenga went 6 strong innings, only giving up 1 hit and zero earned runs. Autumn Meinzer came on in relief in the 7th to get the last 3 outs. Unity Christian Varsity will next be in action on Tuesday afternoon at Home against Caledonia.
