On Monday, Unity Christian Varsity Softball started the season off in winning fashion by a score of 9-5 against East Kentwood. Unity Christian collected 12 hits on the afternoon, as all 8 different Crusader hitters tallied a base hit. Hitting was led by Paige Rylaarsdam with 3, and Molly Versluis, Makenzie Cammenga and Rachel Huttinga each collected 2 hits each. Also, Freshman Brooklyn Overweg went deep to record her 1st High School Home Run! Makenzie Cammenga went 6 strong innings, only giving up 1 hit and zero earned runs. Autumn Meinzer came on in relief in the 7th to get the last 3 outs. Unity Christian Varsity will next be in action on Tuesday afternoon at Home against Caledonia.
