Girls Varsity Softball vs. OPEN

Crusaders Win: 9 - 1
On Saturday, Unity Christian Varsity Softball claimed the Regional Title by scores of 15-0 & 9-1 over Forest Hill Eastern & Coopersville.  Makenzie Cammenga was stellar in the circle, getting the win in both games.  Makenzie only gave up 6 hits on the day and struckout 13 opposing batters in recording her 20th & 21st win on the season.  Makenzie had a lot of help from her teammates as they totaled 27 hits on the day between the 2 games.  All 14 Unity hitters contributed to the offensive attack lead by Julie Bremer who had 5 hits on the day.  Molly Versluis also went deep in the Regional Finals to record her 1st HR on the season.  Unity now moves onto the Quarter Finals on Tuesday against Gaylord at Central Michigan University at 1:00pm.

Crusaders Win: 17 - 0
On Saturday, Unity Christian Varsity Softball claimed the District Title by scores of 17-0 & 16-0.  Makenzie Cammenga was stellar in the circle, pitching 2 complete game shutouts.  Makenzie only gave up 1 hit on the day and struckout 18 opposing batters in recording her 18th & 19th win on the season.  Makenzie had a lot of help from her teammates as they totaled 18 hits in the 2 run ruled shortened games.  All 14 Unity hitters contributed to the offensive attack lead by Kaylee VanderVeen who had 5 hits on the day and also recording her 6th Home Run on the season.  Unity now moves onto the Regional Semi’s on Saturday, June 10th at 12:30pm against Forest Hills Eastern.  The game will be played at Spring Lake High School.

Crusaders Win: 6 - 3
On Tuesday Night, Unity Christian Varsity Softball hosted the Wildcats of Jenison in a double header.  Jenison came into the contest ranked #7 in Division 1. Unity ended up splitting the twinbill with Jenison losing the 1st game 4-2, but coming back in the 2nd game, winning 6-3.  In game 1, Senior Allie Lubben took to the rubber and pitched a great game, only giving up 5 hits and 2 earned runs.  She also struck out 7 in the contest.  However, Unity was not able to string enough hits together.  Unity had only 4 hits in the contest, with Molly Versluis going to 2-2 at the plate.  Natalie Bush supplied the RBI’s as she went deep in the 1st inning to drive in 2 runs.  In game 2, Makenzie Cammenga started for Unity and went all 7 in recording her 17th win on the season, striking out 9 and only giving 5 hits and 2 earned runs.  Unity had 9 hits in game 2, led by Paige Rylaarsdam with 3, and Molly & Allie Lubben collected 2 hits apiece.  Unity will next be in action on Saturday for District play.  Unity opens with Kelloggsville at 10:00 at Unity Christian’s Athletic Field.

Crusaders Lose: 1 - 2
On Thursday Night, Unity Christian Varsity Softball competed against Zeeland West at Home.  Unity Christian put up a valiant effort but lost 2-1 in an 11 inning battle.  Unity had the lead late in the contest 1-0, but a 2 out triple by Zeeland West in the top of the 7th tied the score.  We then went 4 more scoreless innings until Zeeland West was able to push across a run in the top of the 11th as the contest went to international tie break rules.  Makenzie Cammenga was again dominant in the circle.  Allowing only 5 hits and striking out 9.  Unity was also able to out hit the competition as we had 10 hits on the night led by Molly Versluis, Natalie Bush, Olivia Miller, & Julia Bremer all with 2 each.

Crusaders Win: 10 - 5
On Monday Night, Unity Christian Varsity Softball completed conference play by sweeping West Catholic by scores of 10-5 and 11-0.  Unity Christian finishes conference play by going 14-0 and winning the outright conference title.  In game 1, Makenzie Cammenga got the start and went 4 innings in getting the win.  She gave up 2 hits and striking out 6, while allowing no runs.  Allie Lubben finished the game going the last 3 innings.  Unity had 9 hits in the game with Paige Rylaarsdam, Allie Lubben, Natalie Bush all collecting 2 hits.  In game 2 Makenzie again got the start and went all 5 innings in the run ruled shortened game.  Makenzie gave up 3 hits and struck out 10, with zero runs allowed.  Unity had 10 hits in the 2nd game with Paige leading the team with 3.  Natalie and Kate McNamara also collected 2 hits in the contest.  Natalie also went deep to record her 7th HR on the season.  Unity will next be in action on Thursday at home vs Zeeland West at 4:30pm

Crusaders Win: 6 - 5
On Saturday, Unity Christian Varsity competed in the Blue Chip Best of Michigan softball tournament.  Unity was able to come home again undefeated, going 3-0 on the day by scores of 11-3 against Zeeland West, 6-5 against Ravenna, and 11-8 vs Plymouth.  Unity will next be in action on Monday against conference opponent West Catholic.

Crusaders Win: 9 - 1
On Wednesday night, Unity Christian Varsity softball traveled to Grandville for an out of conference game.  Unity was able to come home with a hard fought 9-1 win.  Makenzie Cammenga was again stellar in the circle, going all 7 inning and striking out 11.  Unity offensive continued to be hot from the plate as they collected 14 hits on the night.  Paige Rylaarsdam, Molly Versluis, Natalie Bush, and Autumn Meinzer all collected two hits the night.  And Bri VanderVliet came in to hit a 2 rbi single that open the game up for Unity.  Natalie also went deep to record her 6th HR on the season!  Unity will next be in action on Saturday as they play some solid competition at the Blue Chip Best of Michigan 2023 tournament at Whistlestop Park in Byron Center.

Crusaders Win: 16 - 1
On Tuesday night, Unity Christian Varsity softball clinched the OK Blue Championship by sweeping the Lakers from Spring Lake by scores of 16-1 in game 1 and 18-3 in game 2.  Unity bats were on fire for both games.  Unity had 10 hits in game 1.  Kaylee Vander Veen had 3 hits and Allie Lubben had two to lead the team.  Kaylee also went deep for the game to record her 4 HR on the season.  Makenzie Cammenga pitched to record her 11th win on the Season.  In game 2 Unity batted around and recorded 13 runs in the 1st inning.  In total, Unity collected 17 hits in game 2.  Olivia Miller and Kaylee each had 3 hits apiece.  Also recording multiple hits were Paige Rylaarsdam, Allie Lubben & Molly Versluis.  Olivia hit a HR in game 2 for her 3rd on the Season.  Allie Lubben got the start and win in the circle, going 3 innings and giving up only 1 earned run.  Unity will next be in action on Wednesday, May 17th at 4:30pm at Grandville.

Crusaders Win: 8 - 2
On Friday night, Unity Christian Varsity softball battled South Christian in non conference DH.  Unity came out on top in both games 8-2 in game 1 and 9-8 in a 9-inning affair in game 2.  Unity got things going early in game one as the 1st 6 batters reached based and got of to a 5-0 lead after 1st inning.  Makenzie Cammenga got the start in the circle and got the win in going 7 innings and allowing only 2 earned runs on 5 hits and striking out 12.  On the offensive side, several Unity players contributed as Molly Versluis & Kaylee VanderVeen recorded 3 hits.  And Allie Lubben, Natalie Bush, & Olivia Miller collected two each.  Olivia also hit a towering HR for her 2nd on the year.  In game 2, Kaylee VanderVeen got the start in the circle.  Kaylee went 3 innings and struck out 2 SC batters.  Makenzie came on in relief to pick up her 10th win on the season.  Unity had 12 hits on the game led by Kate McNamara, Paige Rylaarsdam, Allie, Molly, & Natalie with 2 each.  Unity will next be in action at home on Tuesday, May 16 against Spring Lake in a conference DH.

Crusaders Win: 19 - 0
On Tuesday, Unity Christian Varsity softball traveled to Holland Christian for a conference doublehearder.  UC Varsity Softball came out on top in both games by scores of 19-0 and 12-4.  Makenzie Cammenga went 5 innings in the run ruled shorten game in game #1 to get the win.  Makenzie went 5 innings, giving up zero runs, 1 hit and striking out 10.  Unity also had 18 hits in the event with Molly Versluis leading the charge with 4 and Allie Lubben with 3.  Four more players had two hits, Paige Rylaarsdam, Olivia Miller, Kaylee VanderVeen, & Makenzie Cammenga.  Kaylee also went deep in game 1.  In game 2 Allie Lubben got the start and win, with relief help from Makenzie.  Both pitchers combined to strikeout 11 HC batters in the contest.  Unity again had 17 hits led by Kaylee & Julia Bremer with 3.  Molly, Olivia, & Makenzie collect two hits.  Kaylee again went deep in the 2nd game also.  Unity Christian now stands 17-6 on the year and 10-0 in conference play.
Girls Varsity Softball vs. Wayland Union High School

Crusaders Win: 11 - 6
On Saturday, Unity Christian Varsity softball traveled to Wayland to compete in the Wayland Invitational.  UC Softball came home with the hardware going 3-0 on the day in beating Caledonia (10-1) in Game 1, state ranked HM Big Rapids (14-7) in game 2, and state ranked HM Wayland (11-6) in game 3. Pitching was outstanding on the day as Kaylee Vander Veen got the win in game 1 giving up only 1 earned run in 6 innings pitched and striking out 4.  In game 2 , Makenzie Cammenga got the start and went 7 innings giving up on 4 earned runs and striking out 9.  Game 3 Allie Lubben commanded the rubber and only gave up 1 earned run and striking out 7.  More impressively was the approached at the plate as the Unity hitters combines to bat .466 on the day.  In game 1, Unity tallied 14 hits, with Allie going 4-4 at the plate, and Molly Versluis, Natalie Bush, & Olivia Miller all collecting 2 hits each.  In game 2, Unity collected 17 hits.  Natalie, Kaylee Vander Veen, & Julia Bremer all had 3 hits, and Allie, Molly, & Olivia continued their hot hitting with 2 apiece.  Natalie Bush also went deep in the game hitting a HR on a 230’ fence.  In game 3, Unity had 17 hits again, with Paige Rylaarsdam, Molly, & Olivia leading the team with 3 hits, and Kaylee & Autumn Meinzer collecting 2 hits.  Unity will next be in action on Tuesday as they travel to Holland Christina for a conference doubleheader.

Crusaders Win: 9 - 3
On Wednesday Night, Unity Christian Varsity Softball traveled to Byron Center for a Double Header.  Unity won both games by scores of 9-3 & 6-1 behind strong pitcher & hitter.  In Game 1, Makenzie Cammenga took the rubber in going to the distance, allowing 3 earned runs and striking out 11.  Makenzie received help at the plate as Unity tallied 10 hits, with Natalie Bush leading the team with 3 hits and Autumn Meinzer and Paige Rylaarsdam had 2 hits in game 1.  Paige continued her hot streak as she hit 2 more HR’s on the night and led the team in RBI’s with 5.  Game 2 turned into a pitching duel.  Allie Lubben toed the rubber for Unity, going all 7 innings,  allowing only 1 earned run and striking out 3.  Game was tied at 1-1 going into the bottom of the 6th, and Unity bats game to life producing 5 runs on 7 hits.  Allie, Kaylee VanderVeen & Julia Bremer all had 2 hits to lead the team.  Unity will next be in action on Thursday, at Allendale for a conference Double Header.

On Thursday night, Unity Christian Varsity softball traveled to Allendale to play 2 conference games.  UC game out on top in both games by scores of 12-0 and 11-3.  Unity bats continued to stay hot as we collected 13 hits in game one and 14 hits in game 2.  Game 1 several players had multiple hits including Paige Rylaarsdam, Allie Lubben, Olivia Miller, Autumn Meinzer, & Julia Bremer.  In game 1 Makenzie Cammenga pick up her 3rd conference win with a rule ruled shortened game.  Makenzie went 5 innings in striking out 7 and only giving up 1 hit.  In Game 2 we saw 5 more players record multiple hits with Natalie Bush leading the team with 3 hits.  Paige, Allie, Molly Versluis, & Kaylee VanderVeen all collected 2 hits.  Two more players hit HR’s in game 2, with Paige leading off the game on first pitch hitting it over the left field fence.  Natalie Bush also went deep on the night.  Allie Lubben got the win in going 6 innings giving up 2 earned runs and striking out 4.  Kaylee VanderVeen come on in relief in the 7th to record the save.  UC Softball will next be in action at Wayland on Saturday.

Crusaders Win: 9 - 5
On Friday night, UC Varsity Softball hosted State Ranked Calvin Christian.  The game turned into an instant classic.  Unity prevailed on a walked off Grand Slam in the bottom of the 8th inning by Paige Rylaarsdam.  Makenzie Cammenga got the win for Unity as she went 8 innings striking out 9.  Unity collected 13 hits on the night lead by Paige and Olivia Miller with 3 each.  Olivia also got the key hit in the bottom of the 5th to put Unity up 5-4 at the time.  Kaylee VanderVeen & Molly Versluis also collected 2 hits on the night.  Unity will be back in conference play on Tuesday, May 2nd at Allendale.

Crusaders Win: 1 - 0
On Tuesday, April 25th, UC Varsity Softball hosted conference rival Hamilton.  In the 1st game, UC Varsity Softball won 1-0 behind strong pitching from Makenzie Cammenga.  Makenzie went 9 strong innings, striking out 12 and scattering 7 hits.  Unity had 7 hits on the game, with Bella Duimstra getting the winning RBI double to preserve the win.   Bella also paced the team with 2 hits.  In game 2, the Unity bats got hot.  Unity tallied 15 hits and won the game 18-6 to sweep on the night.  Allie Lubben got the start in the circle the 2nd game and got the Win.  Unity bats were paced by Paige Rylaarsdam & Kaylee VanderVeen with 3 hits.  And Molly Versluis & Natalie Bush had 2 hits apiece.  Kaylee & Natalie also went deep with home runs.

Crusaders Win: 15 - 2
On Thursday, April 20th, UC Varsity Softball traveled to Covenant Christian.  UC Varsity Softball won 15-0 behind strong pitching and hitting.  MacKenzie Cammenga got the start in the circle and threw her 1st UC Varsity Softball No Hitter, blanking the Covenant Christian batters and striking out 11 for the game.  UC Bats were strong also, totaling 15 hits for the game paced by Paige Rylaarsdam with 3.  All UC batters reached on base and contributed to the total.

Crusaders Win: 16 - 1
On Tuesday, April 18th, UC Varsity Softball was home to continue conference play against Fruitport.  UC Varsity Softball took both games in the doubleheader in run rule fashion.  Game 1 by score of 16-1 & Game 2 12-2.  In the 1st game, Allie Lubben pitched a complete game 3 hitter, while striking out 5.  Unity had 14 hits to support the cause lead by 5 players with multiple hits.  Olivia Miller lead the team with 3 hits, while Paige Rylaarsdam, Allie Lubben, Molly Versluis, & Bri VanderVliet all collected two hits.  Both Olivia & Natalie Bush had HR’s in Game 1.  In Game 2, Kaylee VanderVeen got the start and Win.  Mackenze Cammenga came on in relief the last two inning striking out 4 Fruitport hitters.  Unity Bats were again HOT, as they collected 15 hits.  Paige, Allie, Olivia and Rachel Huttinga all paced the team with 2 hits apiece.  Unity will next be in action on Thursday, April 20th at Covenant Christian.

Crusaders Win: 5 - 1
UC Varsity Softball travelled to Coopersville on Tuesday, taking both games of the doubleheader by scores of 5-1 & 13-3.  In the 1st game, Kaylee VanderVeen pitched a solid 5 1/3 innings to get the win, striking out 3 with no walks.  MacKenzie Cammenga came on in relief in the 6th inning with the score 3-1 and was able to strikeout the 5th & 6th hitter in the Coopersville lineup to get out of the jam.  Then closed out the game in the 7th to get the save.  Paige Rylaarsdam & Molly Versluis had multiple hits and Paige, & Natalie Bush hit their 1st HR’s on the season.  The 2nd game of the night was run ruled after 5 innings.   Allie Lubben received the win and MacKenzie Cammenga again got the save.  Unity bats came to life in 2nd game as they recorded 16 hits, lead by Molly & Natalie with 3 and 2 hits each for Olivia Miller & Allie.  Unity will next be in action on Friday, April 14th, as they travel to crosstown school, Hudsonville Eagles for 2 games.

Crusaders Lose: 1 - 9
UC Varsity Softball opened up the 2023 season this afternoon at home to East Kentwood.  Unfortunately, the UC bats were silent and UC fell to Ek by a score of 9-1.  UC was only able to muster 3 hits on the afternoon.  Molly VerSluis, Natalie Bush, & Julia Bremer led the team in hitting.  UC will next be in action on April 11th against Coopersville as they open conference play.
