GRAND HAVEN HIGH SCHOOL: 7
The freshman Crusaders split a Friday doubleheader with a quality Grand Haven team. Ryan Broek pitched an excellent game 1 and got the win. However, there was a time when the tides seemed to be turning against the Unity boys when Grand Haven's 6-hitter smashed a rocket to left field with two outs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. Everyone in the jam-packed stadium thought Grand Haven's runner on 2nd base would score easily when the stars aligned, the earth rotated perfectly, and Stephen VanderSloot launched a perfect strike from left field to home plate. Ethan Stienstra (our catcher) tagged out their runner, momentum was restored, and there was order in the universe once again. Needless to say, we won 6-2. VanderSloot added a hit and a walk in the effort.
We lost game 2. But it didn't influence our spirits.
