Varsity vs Thornapple Kellogg High School (8 - 22) Loss Every pins counts This loss was a lot closer than the score shows. The boys lost the 1st baker by 13 pins and the 2nd by 3. One mark and a handful of extra pins was the difference between a 10-0 hole and a 10-0 lead. The 1st regular game was more of the same. 3 of the individual points were lost by 8 pins each and the 4th was lost by 1 pin. The 5th bowler basically took the game total and the single individual point by beating his opponent by 37 pins. Now with the score 14-5, we needed all of the points to win. the 1st three bowlers took their points by 14, 22 and 7 pins. Again all close contests. The 4th bowler lost his point by 50 which put the boys in a tough spot. The anchor bowler needed 2 strikes in the 10th to win his point and get the tie, which is a tall order. Unfortunately, he missed the 1st strike and the match was lost. As a coach I always talk to the bowlers about every pins counts. Today was the perfect example. Over 12 games of bowling, the difference between a win and a tie came down to 6 pins. 4 pins in the 2nd baker is an 8 point swing. 2 pins by one bowler in the 1st regular game. Any of the 3 bowlers that missed their point in the 1st regular that turn an open into a spare by picking up 1 or 2 more pins and it turns that tie into a win. Every pins counts
